GOOD TO KNOW
Privacy Policy

Guess That Bollywood is a browser game you can play without creating an account. We aim to use only the information needed to run the game, multiplayer rooms and the daily leaderboard, and to understand aggregate site use.
What we do not ask for
We do not ask you to register or provide your real name, email address, password, phone number, postal address or payment details. If you use multiplayer or the optional daily leaderboard, you may choose a nickname or display name. Please do not use personal information in it.
Gameplay and multiplayer
To run a multiplayer room, we process a room code, a nickname, an essential session credential, lobby status, player presence, and game actions such as selected answers, scores and rounds. This information is stored in the game’s database so the room can work, reconnect and stay in sync.
Rooms are configured to expire after two hours. Expired rooms are deleted by application cleanup when a new lobby is created, so deletion can occur after the expiry time. The session credential is represented by an HTTP-only, secure, same-site cookie and is valid for up to 30 days. The database stores a hash of that credential, not the credential itself.
The optional daily leaderboard stores an anonymous browser-generated profile ID, the display name you choose, and your daily high score. It also stores aggregate game-result statistics. These are persistent service records; the current implementation does not set an automated deletion period for leaderboard records.
Information stored in your browser
Local browser storage keeps your onboarding choice and solo high score. If you use the leaderboard, it also keeps its anonymous profile ID and your chosen display name; the host page also saves its volume preference. This information stays on your device unless you clear your browser storage.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic and improve the site. Vercel may process page or route visited, timestamp, referrer, filtered query parameters, approximate geographic region, browser, operating system and device type. It is designed to provide aggregated analytics without third-party analytics cookies or persistent cross-site profiles. We do not use it to personally identify visitors.
We also use Plausible for privacy-focused aggregate analytics. The game sends limited event information about a game starting, a completed-round outcome and reveal stage, plus rounded visible-session duration. It deliberately excludes song titles, guesses, scores, player names, room codes and challenge tokens.
Read Vercel’s Web Analytics privacy information and Plausible’s data policy for more detail.
Why we use this information
We use it to operate the game and multiplayer rooms, show the leaderboard, maintain reliability, diagnose technical problems and understand aggregate site use. We do not sell personal information and do not use advertising trackers.
Service providers
Vercel provides hosting and analytics. Plausible provides analytics. Neon provides the database used for multiplayer and leaderboard records, and Ably provides real-time room updates. These services process information only as needed to provide their parts of the game.
Cookies and retention
The game sets an essential multiplayer session cookie only when you create or join a room; it is not an advertising or tracking cookie. We do not implement non-essential advertising cookies. Browser storage remains on your device until you clear it. Analytics retention is handled according to Vercel’s and Plausible’s service practices. The retention details for multiplayer and leaderboard records are described above.
Your rights
You may have rights under applicable data-protection law, including rights to request access, correction or deletion of personal information where applicable. Because the game has no accounts and intentionally keeps little user-identifiable information, there may often be little or no information we can link to a particular visitor. You can also read guidance from the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy if the game or its data practices change. The latest revision date will appear at the top of this page. For privacy questions or other enquiries, visit Contact.
